The Red Tin soldier - Poem on Hope, the End of War & Pain, Resilience and New beginnings

Beautiful Xmas log made by Linda Bogaert

The Red Tin soldier marched along,

in his head played constantly,

"the enemy's wrong".

All he wanted was to win,

against this enemy

that was always against him.

His boots were torn,

his feet were cold,

this marching on in winter's fold,

Wasn't stopping Life somewhere else..

People gathering around a warm fire

a hot drink in hand, stories being told.

Stories of a brave Red Tin soldier marching on,

to keep the country safe & strong.

Stories then were also surely told,

of Red Tin soldiers buried in the cold!

The Red Tin soldier marched along,

His hands were now lifeless,

under the gloves that had promised to kept them warm.

He didn't yet hear the enemy's hum

Heading his way...

The faint beat of a little drum.

The Red Tin soldier hoped to see,

The New Year bringing in any respite of the smallest degree.

He dreamed of a blanketed bed or a bath where he,

Could soak in the heat

Even if he got rusty!

The poor Red Tin soldier has had enough,

but he's sworn an oath that needs him to be tough,

He knows inside that life will never be normal for him,

cause he has no option to quit on a whim.

- this poem was inspired by all the Xmas decor I've seen recently with Tin soldiers & this delicious looking log made by my ex-colleague Linda Bogaert. I'm sure it tasted lovely even if my poem is not on the same wavelength as the photo.
